C - Mike Zunino - NFBC ADP 252
It’s not very often that you can draft a 30 homer hitter this late, let alone a catcher. In the most razor-thin position, going for a high-upside player like Zunino is my favorite strategy. The high strikeout total and low batting average will hurt no matter what scoring format you use but as the 16th catcher off the board there’s going to be some major flaws. Especially in a 2 catcher format Zunino could be a league-winner, with 40 homer power potential if the Rays loosen the reins and give Mike more than the 375 PA’s he got last year. I don’t believe that Francisco Mejia has the glove to stick behind the plate in the long term and without a catching prospect in the top 15 of their farm, the Rays should lean on Zunino at least for the time being.

OF - Brandon Nimmo - NFBC ADP 301
I wouldn’t blame you if you missed Brandon Nimmo putting up an OBP above .400 for the third time in the last four years but he has secured himself as a legitimate bat when he’s healthy. Being healthy truly is the key, as he’s eclipsed 100 games once in his 6 year career(although he played 55 games in the shortened 2020 season). However, it’s reassuring to me that it hasn’t been one recurring thing. I feel confident projecting him for about 120 games which at this point in the draft is a steal. I would compare him to Giancarlo Stanton of a few years ago where he kept producing but was discounted due to injury concerns. I’d consider him an absolute bargain being available after pick 300.

SP - Cal Quantrill - NFBC ADP 261
It’s hard to believe that on average 96 pitchers come off the board before Quantrill, one of the latest products of the Cleveland pitching machine. Cleveland gave Cal a shot at the rotation in the second half of 2021 and he responded well, posting a sub-2.00 ERA in 14 starts after the All Star Break. While his strikeout rate isn’t going to blow you away, he’s consistently put up a FIP around 4.00. I truly believe he’ll take a step forward in 2022, and with 160+ IP he could find himself in the top 25 for starters next year.
